Waiting for the harvest

Do you not say that it is yet four months and the harvest comes?
Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and see the fields,
because they are already white toward harvest!
John 4:35

Sometimes it’s hard to wait until the harvest is ready!

Our young grandson pulls on the branches of the backyard plum tree.
He eyes the plums hanging above and desires to eat the homegrown fruit.
He manages to get a lower hanging one and happily bites into the plum -
although quickly says it’s sour and throws it down!

He sees there are more even higher. “Surely those plums are sweeter,”
he says to himself.  His parents tell him he needs to wait and let the
fruit ripen. Each day he runs to the tree and looks up hoping today will be
the day for the ripe fruit to be picked.  His father encourages him to be
patient - they are one day closer to the harvest.

No discipline seems enjoyable at the time, but painful.
Later on, however, it yields a peaceful harvest of righteousness
to those who have been trained by it.
Hebrews 12:11
