Lahaina’s historic Waiola Church and the neighboring Lahaina Hongwanji Mission temple were among the structures that caught fire Wednesday, the Maui News reported. The church was established in 1823, and its graveyard, believed to be the first Christian cemetery in Hawaii, is the final resting place for early members of the royal family of the Kingdom of Hawaii, according to its website.

 “Finally, brethren, pray for us.…” The Greek word translated “pray” is from the word proseuchomai. As it is used in this verse, this word means to pray continually or to pray without stopping. Paul is sincerely asking for committed prayer partners who will pray nonstop for his team, his ministry, and for himself. When he says, “Pray for us,” the word “for” is the Greek word peri, which means around or about.
The words “free course” come from the Greek word trecho, which means to run.  ... let’s stop and look deeper into the meaning of the word trecho. This word often referred to runners who ran a foot race in a huge stadium before adoring crowds of fans. In order for the runner to run successfully and finish triumphantly, every ounce of his strength and his complete attention was required. This word was also used to describe the swift-running messengers who dashed between enemy lines to carry vital messages of instruction to those who waited on the other side of the battle. These especially brave and courageous messengers were essential if battles were to be won. Thus, it is possible to translate this phrase, “Pray that we will be able to keep up the pace that is required for us to get this message out!” 
Finally, Paul makes one last prayer request. He asks for prayer that the word of the Lord may “…be glorified, even as it is with you.” The word “glorified” is the Greek word doxadzo, which paints the picture of the triumphant arrival of God’s glory, ushering in a new and glorious day in the lives and the territories where the word of the Lord is heard and received.

Aug 16 - As the deadly fires spread, no one tried to activate Maui’s 80-alarm, all-hazard outdoor siren system, a spokesperson for the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency said last week. Andaya on Wednesday was asked whether he regretted not sounding the alarms, which are part of a larger statewide network. “I do not,” he told reporters, adding he’d worried their blares would have sent many residents inland “into the fire.”
Video taken at the Maui Bird Conservation Center in Makawao appears to show a power pole faulting just before 11 p.m. on August 7. Soon after, what appears to be flames are seen in the video .“Electricity powers the pumps that provide the water needed for firefighting.”
Aug 17 - The resignation of Maui Emergency Management Agency Administrator Herman Andaya is effective immediately, the county said. His post will be filled “as quickly as possible.” 
The wildfires that ignited August 8 have killed at least 111 people.

Strong's Hebrew: 2671. חֵץ (chets) -- arrow
The masculine noun חץ (hes), meaning arrow. This noun occurs 56 times in the Bible, often in the literal sense of arrows being shot during a military effort (2 Chronicles 26:15, Isaiah 5:28). Once arrows are used in some kind of divination ritual (Ezekiel 21:21), and often arrows are symbols for the words or acts of wicked people who seek to fell the righteous (Psalm 11:2, 57:4, Jeremiah 9:7; also see EPHESIANS 6:16).

Hebrew: אֱלוּל‎, Elul is the sixth month of the ecclesiastical year on the Hebrew calendar and twelfth month of the Jewish civil year. It is a summer month of 29 days.  
Elul is an Akkadian word for "harvest." 
The word "Elul" is similar to the root of the verb "search" in Aramaic. The Hebrew word "Elul" can be understood to be an acronym for the phrase "Ani L'dodi V'dodi Li" – 
"I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine."

  • Serving with excellence?
  • Genuinely concerned about the welfare of those whom you serve?
  • Sincerely wanting to serve them in the best way you can?
  • Honestly thinking of how to help those who have been assigned to your care?
  • Truthfully wanting to serve in a professional and timely manner?
  • Faithfully doing your job from the depths of your heart?
If these are the qualities that God sees in you, it probably won’t be long until He makes sure you are rewarded with a greater level of responsibility. Why? Because He’ll know you are trustworthy and ready to handle the promotion. In fact, the word diakonos later came to represent a person found so extremely trustworthy and reliable that he was placed in charge of managing a palace!

July 31 - Spotless giraffe born in LIMESTONE, Tenn. — One of the world’s rarest giraffes was born at Brights Zoo in July, zoo ownership reports. Brights Zoo in Limestone welcomed the solid brown giraffe on July 31. “Giraffe experts believe she is the only solid-colored reticulated giraffe living anywhere on the planet,” Brights Zoo stated in a release. She was born with no spots which Bright said, you can see right after giraffes are born.
The calf is a reticulated giraffe (Giraffa reticulata), one of four giraffe species—until 2016, scientists recognized only one species of giraffe. The last known spotless reticulated giraffe was likely Toshiko, a calf born in 1972 in Tokyo, writes Caitlin O’Kane for CBS News. Only two others have ever been recorded—the older sibling of Toshiko and an individual in Uganda, per Insider.

Allegations that two Christian men reportedly had desecrated pages of the Quran, the Muslims’ holy book, triggered the rampage involving hundreds of Muslims.
At least 19 churches or properties linked to churches were burnt on August 16 in the city and surrounding areas along with dozens of homes belonging to Christians.

Golda Meir (born Golda Mabovitch; 3 May 1898 – 8 December 1978) she served as the fourth Prime Minister of Israel from 1969 to 1974. Born in Kiev in the Russian Empire, Meir immigrated to Wisconsin, United States, as a child with her family in 1906. 
On 14 May 1948, Meir became one of 24 signatories (including two women) of the Israeli Declaration of Independence. She later recalled, "After I signed, I cried. When I studied American history as a schoolgirl and I read about those who signed the U.S. Declaration of Independence, I couldn't imagine these were real people doing something real. And there I was sitting down and signing a declaration of establishment."
On 3 October 1948, during Rosh Hashanah celebrations at the Moscow Choral Synagogue, she was mobbed by thousands of Russian Jews chanting in Russian "Nasha Golda", meaning "Our Golda". This image later appeared on the 1984 10,000-shekel banknote. Yom Kippur War (1973)
She strongly identified with Judaism culturally, but was an atheist in religious belief. In 1956, after becoming Foreign Minister, she changed her surname from "Meyerson" to "Meir", meaning "illuminate", as her predecessor Moshe Sharett had all members of the foreign service take a Hebrew surname.
Milwaukee, WI: She attended the Fourth Street Grade School (now Golda Meir School) from 1906 to 1912. Meir's mother ran a grocery store on Milwaukee's north side. In 1912, she began studying at North Division High School and worked part-time. Her employers included Schuster's department store and the Milwaukee Public Library.
The Golda Meir Library is the main library of the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. Golda graduated in 1917 from the Milwaukee State Normal School, an institution to which UWM traces its lineage.
