With Covid-19 and the 19th anniversary of the Twin Tower destruction (9-11-2001), this year feels much more impactful on so many levels. And the number 19 has been prominently displayed everywhere! 
 
Personal - My dad's death - 19 years ago!!  - The week of my dad's surgery and death was filled with amazing love and peace.  God's presence and Holy Spirit was STRONG during this time and the whole last year of my dad's life - his surrender to the Lord at age 70 and wondrous baptism day on November 18, 2001!

Pope Francis will celebrate the International Day of Human Fraternity on Thursday, 4 February, in a virtual event hosted by Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed in Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates, with the participation of the Grand Imam of Al Azhar, Ahmad Al-Tayyeb; Secretary General António Guterres of the United Nations; and other personalities.

On the same occasion, the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity, which is inspired by the Human Fraternity Document, will be awarded. Pope Francis calls for fraternity: We are either brothers or enemies
The pope participated in the virtual event to celebrate International Day of Human Fraternity.
The United Nations designated this day petitioned by the United Arab Emirates to commemorate the day the pope and the leader of the Sunni Muslims, Ahmed Al-Tayyeb, signed the document on human fraternity two years ago. A special committee was created to promote the document's message. Judge and committee member Abdel Salam led the online event. The Grand Imam said this day should act as a reminder of the need for a more united world. He and the pope praised each other's courage in pushing this initiative forward.

“The most beautiful part of all this was that initial desire for fraternity that gradually transformed into real fraternity among us. Thank you, brother. Thank you.”
Pope Francis' message was very clear. He said it's not a time for indifference, and that the only valid option is fraternity.
"We cannot say, 'brothers or not brothers,' but rather, 'brothers or enemies.'”
He also said fraternity does not mean rejecting one's own ideas or roots, but rather listening to, accepting and counting on one another.
“Fraternity means firmness in one's own convictions, because there is no true fraternity if one's own convictions are negotiable. We are brothers and sisters, born from the same Father. We have different cultures and traditions, but we are all brothers and sisters.”
The winners of the Zayed Prize, inspired by the document on human fraternity, were also announced during the event. They were UN secretary-general Antonio Guterres and Latifa Ibn Ziaten, who founded an organization for peace after a terrorist killed her son in France.

Abel Makkonen Tesfaye was born on February 16, 1990 in Toronto, Ontario, and was raised in Scarborough. He is the only child of Makkonen and Samra Tesfaye, who were Ethiopian immigrants to Canada in the late 1980s. Abel was raised by his grandmother and mother after his parents split up. While living with his grandmother Tesfaye learned Amharic, which he also spoke with his mother, and attended Ethiopian Orthodox church services.
