Microsoft was founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen to develop and sell BASIC interpreters for the Altair 8800. The same day Altair BASIC was released. “Micro-Soft” was registered on Nov. 26, 1976, as a pastiche of “microcomputer” and “software.”It rose to dominate the personal computer operating system market with MS-DOS in the mid-1980s, followed by Windows.

April 14 - White House Says It Has Tech That Can 'Manipulate Time and Space'
While the White House has not issued a formal clarification, the speech's wording suggests the phrase was metaphorical—intended to refer to the transformative nature of modern innovation, not literal manipulation of space-time, or the invention of time travel.
Kratsios, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, made the remark during a policy address at the Endless Frontiers Retreat in Austin, Texas on April 14.
"Our technologies permit us to manipulate time and space. They leave distance annihilated, cause things to grow, and improve productivity," Kratsios said during prepared remarks published on the official White House website.
While the statement was likely intended as aspirational language about technological progress, it has since circulated widely online, with some interpreting the comment literally.
In the speech, Kratsios emphasized the importance of American leadership in emerging technologies and criticized regulatory burdens that, in his view, had slowed progress. "We have weighed down our builders and innovators," he said. "But we are capable of so much more."
With the U.S. preparing for its 250th anniversary in 2026, Kratsios's speech is one of several recent efforts by the Trump administration to spotlight a so-called "Golden Age of American Innovation."

This April 18, Massachusetts will mark the moment with two lanterns displayed at the State House, honoring Paul Revere’s legendary ride and our state’s foundational role in the fight for independence 250 years ago.
The “Two Lights for Tomorrow” initiative invites communities across Massachusetts and the nation to join in this remembrance. Towns and cities are encouraged to display two lights in a prominent public space on the night of April 18, 2025, in solidarity and celebration of our shared history.

Patriots' Day is Monday and people in New England and beyond are set to commemorate the start of the American Revolution.
