Siege of Jerusalem - 10th of 10th Month

Michael's Deliverance and the End Times

“At that time Michael, the great prince who stands watch over your people,
will rise up.
There will be a time of distress, the likes of which will not have occurred
from the beginning of nations until that time. But at that time your people—
everyone whose name is found written in the book— will be delivered.
Daniel 12:1

Nebuchadnezzar Besieges Jerusalem - 2 Kings 25:1

So in the ninth year of Zedekiah’s reign, on the tenth day of the tenth month,
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon marched against Jerusalem with his entire army.
They encamped outside the city and built a siege wall all around it.

Siege of Jerusalem / Solomon’s Temple - Fast of the 10th Month -

2 Kings 25:1, Jeremiah 52:4, Ezekiel 24:1-2, Zechariah 8:19

EVIDENCE OF BIBLICAL STORY FOUND IN LAYERS OF JERUSALEM ASH
The Bible describes King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon laying siege to Jerusalem and specifically burning down the temple, the palace and “all the great houses” (2 Kings 25:9).
The arrowheads, known as “Scythian arrowheads” and used by Babylonian warriors, have been found at other archaeological sites containing remnants of wars and conflicts during the 7th and 6th centuries BC. “Together, this evidence points to the historical conquest of the city by Babylon because the only major destruction we have in Jerusalem for this period is the conquest of 587/586 BCE,” he said.

Known in Hebrew as Asarah B'Tevet, (10th of Tevet), the fast was originally established to commemorate the beginning of the siege of Jerusalem by the Babylonian emperor Nebuchadnezzar in 425 BCE. The siege was "the beginning of the end" and continued for 30 months until the walls of Jerusalem were breached, eventually leading to the destruction of the First Temple on the 9th of the Hebrew month of Av in 586 BCE, a full 24-hour fast done in the summer.
There are three other minor fasts (meaning they last from daybreak to nightfall) observed by Jews: the 17th of Tammuz three weeks before the 9th of Av, the fast of Gedaliah after Rosh Hashanah and the Fast of Esther before Purim. The two major fasts (meaning they last from before nightfall to nightfall the next day) are the 9th of Av, when the Temples were destroyed, and Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement.

Historical Significance:

The Second Book of Kings 25:1-4:

‘And it was in the ninth year of [King Tzidkiyahu’s] reign, in the tenth month, on the tenth (day) of the month, that Nebuchadnetzar, King of Babylon came, he and all his legions, upon Jerusalem, and encamped upon it and built forts around it. And the city came under siege till the eleventh year of King Tzidkiyahu. On the ninth of the month [of Av] famine was intense in the city, the people had no bread, and the city was breached.’

On the tenth of Tevet, the Babylonians began their siege of Jerusalem.
A year and a half later, on the ninth of Av (Tishah Ba’Av), the First Holy Temple in Jerusalem was destroyed.
The Tenth of Tevet marks two additional tragedies for the Jewish people:
On the 8th of Tevet during the 2nd Beis Hamikdash Talmai (Ptolomy), King of Egypt ordered 72 sages to translate the Torah into Greek, known as the Septuagint.
On the 9th of Tevet, Ezra HaSofer (The Scribe), leader of the Jews who returned from Babylonia to Jerusalem at the beginning of the 2nd Beis Hamikdash period, died.

In the ninth year, on the tenth day of the tenth month,
the word of the LORD came to me,
saying, “Son of man, write down today’s date,
for on this very day the king of Babylon has laid siege to Jerusalem.

Many will be purified, made spotless, and refined,
but the wicked will continue to act wickedly.
None of the wicked will understand, but the wise will understand.

Come now, and let us reason together,
saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow;
though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

Why the clock shows 10:10 in advertisements?

10 in the Bible
  • Entire aggregate of something and completion or fullness. Completed order of a thing.
  • The Passover lamb was selected on the 10th day of the 1st month
  • The 10th day of the 7th month is the Holy Day known as the Day of Atonement.
  • “Ten Days of Repentance” (Days of Awe or Ten Days of Return) – From Rosh Hashanah to Yom Kippur.
  • 10th time Isaac is mentioned is in Genesis 22 when Abraham is taking him to Mt. Moriah. A type and shadow of the ultimate sacrifice to be paid in full by Messiah.
  • The Holy Spirit descended on the apostles ten days after the Ascension of Jesus.
  • Smyrna – persecuted church in Revelation, 10 days of tribulation.
  • In Genesis, chapter 1, at the beginning of creation, the term “God said” is used 10 times.
  • A tithe (Heb. = maasrah meaning “a tenth”) of 10%
  • In the Temple were 10 lavers, 10 lampstands, and 10 tables
  • God brought 10 plagues on Egypt
  • God created us with 10 fingers and 10 toes.
  • The Ten Commandments of God given to Moses.
  • The ten generations from Adam until Noah.
  • The ten leprous heal by Jesus.
  • The ten horns of the Beast of the Revelation with the ten diadems on each of horns.
  • Parable of 10 virgins (5 wise/5 foolish)

Isn’t this the fast that I have chosen: to break the chains of wickedness,
to untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed free and tear off every yoke?
Isaiah 58:6-8

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses,
let us throw off every encumbrance and the sin that so easily entangles,
and let us run with endurance the race set out for us.
