Tel Aviv: A New City Rising out of Jaffa

And every one that heareth these sayings of mine,
 and doeth them not,
shall be likened unto a foolish man,
which built his house upon the sand:

Matthew 7:26

Tel Aviv: A New City Rising out of Jaffa
 - Inspired by Zionists and Ezekiel

A House Built on Sand

The modern day Israeli city of Tel Aviv has its roots in the book of Ezekiel from which it was named in 1909. Tel Aviv (“spring hill”) was built on the outskirts of the ancient port city of Jaffa (Hebrewיָפוֹ Yafo). The location was occupied by the Israelite tribe of Dan.

Jaffa is claimed to be the oldest port in the world and was founded by Japheth, the son of biblical Noah. Jaffa (Yaffo, Joppa) is one of the oldest port cities in the land of Israel and the Mediterranean. Due to its natural advantages, a hill above a bay, and its strategic location on the crossroads of Israel, the city was a center of historical events over thousands of years.

The book of Joshua (19:46) notes the border of the tribe of Dan, which ran over against Jaffa.

The name Gush Dan means "Dan Bloc", and is so named because the area was the territory of the tribe of Dan in the ancient Kingdom of Israel.

Tel Abib (Hebrewתל-אביבTel Aviv ("the hill of (the season) Spring"), from Akkadian Tel Abûbi ("The Tel of the flood") is the season of the year).

The book of Ezekiel 3:15 - Then I came to them of the captivity at Tel-abib, that dwelt by the river Chebar, and I sat where they sat …

Tel Aviv is the Hebrew title of Theodor Herzl's Altneuland ("Old New Land"), translated from German by Nahum Sokolow.  An adaptation for the modern Israeli city of Tel Aviv came from this name (the Hebrew letter ב without dagesh represents a sound like [v], but archaic English translations of the Bible traditionally transcribe it as "b").
Strong's Concordance: abib (Hebrew 24), Tel Abib (Hebrew 8512).

By the end of the 19th C the city of Jaffa expanded rapidly, and was the main gateway to the rediscovered land. It eventually outgrew its available land and sources of income.  The lack of real-estate space forced the Jewish settlers to establish in 1909 a new city - Tel-Aviv - in the sandy areas north of the city. Gradually, the Jewish population moved to the new neighborhoods in Tel-Aviv.

On 11 April 1909, 66 Jewish families gathered on a desolate sand dune to parcel out the land by lottery using seashells.

And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand
 - Matthew 7:26

The first water well was later dug at this site, located on what is today Rothschild Boulevard, across from Dizengoff House. Within a year, HerzlAhad Ha'amYehuda HaleviLilienblum, and Rothschild streets were built; a water system was installed; and 66 houses (including some on six subdivided plots) were completed.

When Israel declared Independence on 14 May 1948, Tel Aviv was the temporary government center of the State of Israel until the government moved to Jerusalem in December 1949. Due to the international dispute over the status of Jerusalem, most embassies remained in or near Tel Aviv.

Tel Aviv has developed into a secular, liberal-minded center with a vibrant nightlife and café culture. Named "the best gay city in the world" by American Airlines, Tel Aviv is one of the most popular destinations for LGBT tourists internationally, with a large LGBT community. American journalist David Kaufman has described the city as a place "packed with the kind of ‘we're here, we're queer’ vibe more typically found in Sydney and San Francisco. The city hosts its well-known pride parade, the biggest in Asia. In January 2008, Tel Aviv's municipality established the city's LGBT Community centre, providing all of the municipal and cultural services to the LGBT community under one roof. In addition, Tel Aviv hosts an annual LGBT Film Festival.

Tel Aviv will become a supercity with several sub-municipalities in the style of Greater London.

Jerusalem is Israel's capital according to the Jerusalem Law passed in 1980. The presidential residence, government offices, supreme court and parliament (Knesset) are located there. The Palestinian Authority foresees East Jerusalem as the capital of its future state. The UN does not recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital, taking the position that the final status of Jerusalem is pending future negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authorities "Map of Israel"(PDF). (319 KB). Countries maintain their embassies in Tel Aviv and its suburbs, or suburbs of Jerusalem, such as Mevaseret Zion. (see CIA Factbook - CIA Factbook). The Czech Republic, Taiwan, the United States, and Vanuatu recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Jaffa, in Hebrew Yafo, or in Arabic Yaffa (Hebrewיפו‎, About this sound Yāfō (help·info)Arabicيَافَا‎, also called Japho or Joppa), the southern and oldest part of Tel Aviv-Yafo, is an ancient port city in Israel. Jaffa is famous for its association with the biblical stories of JonahSolomon and Saint Peter as well as the mythological story of Andromeda and Perseus, and later for its oranges.

Nineveh, Assyrian Ninua was an important city in ancient Assyria. This "exceeding great city", as it is called in the Book of Jonah, lay on the eastern bank of the Tigris (modern-day Mosul, Iraq). Ancient Nineveh's mound-ruins are located on a level part of the plain near the river within an 1800-acre area circumscribed by a seven and one-half mile brick-rampart. This whole extensive space is now one immense area of ruins. If Jonah is referring to what some scholars call Greater Nineveh, the term could include the region around Nineveh proper with a sixty mile perimeter including Kuyunjik, Khorsabad, and Nimrud.
Situated at the confluence of the Tigris and Khosr, Nineveh was an important junction for commercial routes crossing the Tigris. Occupying a central position on the great highway between the Mediterranean and the Indian Ocean, thus uniting the East and the West, wealth flowed into it from many sources, so that it became one of the greatest of all ancient cities.

A fascinating story of pioneering Christian faith in the Holy Land

George J. Adams, leader of the Christian Americans who established the
Jaffa American Colony in 1866, stated: “We believe the time has come for Israel to gather home from their long dispersion to the land of their fathers.” He further stated: “We are going [to Jaffa] to become practical benefactors of the land and people, to take the lead in developing its great resources.” “We have no purpose to interfere with their religion.” Their purpose was not to missionize but instead to assist the Jewish people.

HOLY LAND UNCOVERED | Tel Aviv is know as a touristic hub with some of the most luxurious hotels in the levant area. Here's a look at one of the most interesting tourism project in Israel: The Drisco Hotel in Tel Aviv.
Original noble intent – Later purchased by a Templar
Hotel décor - 12 tribes / Templars
The beautifully restored hotel channels its exceptional history, enliven by a contemporary design which is an homage to the original 1866 Ottoman grandeur. Situated at the fashionable and eclectic south Tel-Aviv area steps away from the beaches, Rothschild Blvd, charming Neve Tzedek, Jaffa's flea market, and old Jaffa, at the revived American-German Colony neighborhood
1870 - Templer Ernst hardegg bought the hotel and naming it “Jerusalem hotel”.
Unfortunately, the Drisco brothers ran out of funds before completion and sold the hotel to Ernst Hardegg, a German Templar hotelier who finished it and named it the Jerusalem Hotel, due to its location as a rest stop for well-heeled travelers of the day disembarking at Jaffa Port and journeying on to Jerusalem.

On August 11 1866, 157 men, women, and children set sail from the port of Jonesboro, Maine on the three-masted Nellie Chapin. Members of a sect called the Christian Lovers of Zion, they were headed for the Land of Israel. And they had a mission: to develop the land and its resources in preparation for the return of the Jewish people. Armed with modern agricultural equipment, pre-fab wooden houses, and a fervent desire to succeed, they disembarked in Jaffa on September 22.
Among the famous people to lodge at the Hotel du Park were German Emperor Wilhelm II and his wife Auguste Victoria, who stayed in Jaffa overnight on 27 October 1898.
Today is the anniversary of the sailing of Nellie Chapin on August 11, 1866, with a hopeful group of Mainers on their way to help fulfill biblical promises for the Jewish people. They brought seeds, potatoes, farming implements, kerosene and faith in their energy and direction to help modernize life in pre-Zionist Israel.

They were an inspiration and a source of knowledge for the local population and those who followed, especially in the field of group tourism, which was pioneered by Rolla Floyd and the Clark family.

Known as the Mother of the Moshav (a collective type farming village) ...

Built in 1866 by the Mark T. Wentworth family and restored in 2002 by Jean and Reed Holmes, this wooden house was brought from Maine, USA on the sailing vessel, the Nellie Chapin, along with 35 families and their wooden houses. They established the American Colony in Jaffa. In the 1890's a stone addition doubled the house to its present size.
George J. Adams, leader of the Christian Americans who established the Jaffa American Colony in 1866, stated: “We believe the time has come for Israel to gather home from their long dispersion to the land of their fathers.” He further stated: “We are going [to Jaffa] to become practical benefactors of the land and people, to take the lead in developing its great resources.” “We have no purpose to interfere with their religion.” Their purpose was not to missionize but instead to assist the Jewish people.
A short-lived American Colony in the mid-1800s later became the first HQ of the German Templers, preparing for the Second Coming, led by Peter Ustinov's grandfather

The Armor of God - Ephesians 6
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can make your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this world’s darkness, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

The Coming of the Kingdom - Matthew 24:37, Luke 17:26
Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man:

We are historically entering the dates of the Noah events!

"Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul! I will praise the Lord as long as I live;  I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation. When his breath departs, he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish. Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, who keeps faith forever; who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets the prisoners free; the Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; the Lord loves the righteous. The Lord watches over the sojourners; he upholds the widow and the fatherless, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin. The Lord will reign forever, your God, O Zion, to all generations. Praise the Lord!" Psalm 146
