Are you prepared?

“...as ye go, preach, saying,
The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Heal the sick...
...freely ye have received, freely give.”

Matthew 10:7-8

Health warnings continue as we head into the year 2020!  The flu, viruses and "Corona" virus is making major headlines in our news today. Health facilities are overwhelmed and people are being quarantined to their homes.  It is another reminder to have your home prepared for various emergencies. Stocked supplies of food, personal care items, medical and other basic needs items are necessary when regular supply chains are disrupted.

Why We Are So Ill-Prepared for A Possible Pandemic Like Coronavirus

This encouraging story has come out of China as people are staying in their homes.

Shouts of 'jiāyóu' can be heard echoing between Wuhan's high-rise apartment blocks as people take to their balconies to shout what translates literally as "add oil," meaning 'keep up the fight', to their neighbours.  It is day six of life under lockdown for the Chinese city's 11 million residents, who have found themselves at the centre of the outbreak of coronavirus.
加油  "Jiayou" (add oil) = keep the fire burning, more effort, keep going....
The phrase, "Add oil!" is often used to show encouragement, to persist.

verse 4  "but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps."

Life Happens...
Whether you are traveling in a third-world country on various missions, picking up the pieces from a tornado, or even just confronting home or job loss, we will often find ourselves in situations that are far less than ideal - how we react to those circumstances should not make the situation worse.

The Good Samaritan made provision for the care of the injured man even though he was departing.
“...A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho,
and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment,
and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
And by chance there came down a certain priest that way:
and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place,
came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.
But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was:
and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
And went to him, and bound up his wounds,
pouring in oil and wine,
and set him on his own beast, and brought him
to an inn, and took care of him.
And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence,
and gave them to the host, and said unto him,
Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more,
when I come again, I will repay thee.
Which now of these three, thinkest thou,
was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?
And he said, He that shewed mercy on him.
Then said Jesus unto him,
Go, and do thou likewise.”

“And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.
