From January through April, Israelis take to the deserts, the coasts and the Mediterranean hills to wonder at the remarkable bloom of the flowers of spring.
The red crown anemone (Anemone coronaria, or calanit in Hebrew) — Israel’s national flower — carpets fields along the Gaza border area at this time of year, usually drawing large crowds to the “Darom Adom” (“Red South”) festival. In Israel, several red flowers bloom one after the other, so that each gets the pick of the beetles without too much competition.
Five wildflowers share a distinctive red bowl shape with a black center. The crown anemone appears first, followed by the small pheasant’s eye and tulips. The turban buttercup and the poppy flower last.

(WNCN) — Exactly a week after two small earthquakes rattled part of Surry County in North Carolina, another small quake was felt in the western part of the state Sunday in the Great Smoky Mountains. The small earthquake near Bryson City, North Carolina, hit Sunday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The Sunday afternoon quake was centered 11.1 miles west-northwest of Bryson City, North Carolina in Swain County, about 70 miles southwest of Asheville.

WALLOPS ISLAND, Va. (WAVY) — NASA will launch 3 rockets into the total solar eclipse on April 8
It plans to launch three Black Brant IX sounding rockets from its Wallops Flight Facility on Virginia’s Eastern Shore during Monday’s total solar eclipse to study how Earth’s upper atmosphere is affected when sunlight dims for a moment over part of the planet.
Those rockets will launch at three different times — 45 minutes before the total solar eclipse, during it, and then 45 minutes after the peak local eclipse, and they are expected to reach a maximum altitude of 260 miles. The launch window opens at 2:40 p.m. EDT, with targeted launch times for the three rockets being 2:40 p.m., 3:20 p.m. and 4:05 p.m., but those times are subject to change.

April 8 - The UN Security Council on Monday asked its membership committee to review the Palestinian Authority’s application to be made a full member state of the United Nations. The PA is currently a non-member observer state like the Vatican.

The 17th Century Børsen is one of the city's oldest buildings at 400 years -  onlookers gasped as its iconic dragon spire tumbled into the street below.
The old stock exchange was being renovated and had been shrouded in scaffolding and protective plastic covering.
It currently houses the Danish chamber of commerce, which described the scenes on Tuesday morning as a terrible sight.
"This is our Notre-Dame," he said, comparing it with the fire that engulfed the roof and spire of the cathedral in the centre of Paris almost exactly five years ago. The Paris fire broke out under the eaves of Notre-Dame on 15 April 2019 when it was also shrouded in scaffolding as part of extensive renovations.
